Ford People’s Opore Wins Bonchari Seat
Opore garnered 10,947 votes against his closest challenger John Oyioka of ODM who got 5,171 votes.
Former MP Charles Onyancha was in third position in a by election contested by 7 people.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says only 62% of registered voters took part in the vote
This was a drop from 84% registered during the 2013 general election
Other candidates in the race included, David Oyugi Ogega of the Democratic Party, Paul Mongiti Matagaro (Kenya National Congress), Geoffrey Mwendo Omwando (Kenya Social Congress) and National Labour Party’s Charles Ndege Mogaka.
One suspect is still being held by police for allegedly violating electoral laws
The young man is suspected to have registered in more than one constituency.
CORD’s decision to field two strong candidates, Oyioka and the other from Onyancha might have given an advantage to Opore who had the full support of his party.
