Foreigner conned Ksh.150M in Nairobi pleads for release of his passport

A foreigner who was allegedly duped and defrauded Ksh.150 million by Kenyans on claims that they could sell him coffee and artifacts on Monday pleaded with the courts to order police to release his travel and identification documents.

Ryskulov Damir, in an affidavit filed at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nairobi, said he is willing to abide by any conditions the court may issue for the release of his documents.

He argued that as a complainant in the case, the confiscation of his passport without a court order or any explanation is unlawful, inhuman and degrading treatment.

The man, who holds a Kazhakstan passport, says his travel documents were confiscated by detectives during investigation into his complaint.

“Together with my brother Yerlan Baimoldin also a businessman we entered into a business agreement with some Kenyans who said they would export to us Kenyan Tea, coffee and artifacts for which they informed us that they are licensed to deal in such export business,” read Damir’s application.

According to the businessman, they trusted and banked monies into the said accounts.

He said the money was banked through his brother Yerlan’s account to the suspects’ various accounts which are still under investigation by the police.

The application was presented before Milimani Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot.
