Form 2 girl ingests herbicide in Mwea after arguing with her mother

Shock has engulfed Gatarwa village in Krinyaga county after a Form 2 girl ingested a herbicide after a disagreement with her mum.

Reports say that she had been punished by mother Charity Wanjiru who had sought to know why she had slept out.

The girl had reportedly gone missing overnight only to show up at the parents home the following morning.

‘ I was shocked to see her outside our compound because she had not slept in our house and that’s why I was beating her,’ Her mother said

Her father Anthony Maina described the deceased as a very hard-working saying: ‘Her mother wanted to discipline her unfortunately she took away her life by drinking herbicide’

Her grandmother Regina Wairimu who was aggrieved by the incident said her granddaughter had developed a habit of sleeping outside her father’s home.

Mwea-west sub-county police commander Abdillahi Adan Alio has said police have launched investigations over the incident.

He advised parents to be careful while handling their children.
