Form 2 girls arrested over alleged plot to poison classmate released

Three Makueni Girls High School students who were arrested for allegedly planning to poison their classmate over a boy have been released from police custody.

The case, which was previously reported at the Makueni Police Station where the suspects were being detained, has since been thrown out and the school administration directed to oversee it to a logical conclusion.

Confirming the incident, Makueni County Deputy Police Commander Justus Kitetu said cases only proceed to courts depending on their gravity.

The alleged plot by the minors, all aged 15, was busted when their class prefect reported it to the school Deputy Principal, Dorcas Nzioka on July 18, 2019 at around 10pm.

According to the class prefect, the three had planned to poison another 15-year-old girl in their class – Form 2B – alleged to be in a relationship with a boy from the nearby Makueni Boys High School who was also dating one of them.

They were allegedly supposed to execute the plan using chemicals stolen from the school laboratory, namely: hydrochloric acid, Benedict’s solution and phenolphthalein indicator.

“(One of them) was to execute the plan by lacing victim’s lunch meal with one of the chemicals namely phenolpthaline indicator while the other two kept vigil,” read a police report.

The executor however developed cold feet on the plan at the last minute, leading to a quarrel among them.

She (executor) then opted to blow the whistle and reported to the class prefect who in turn informed the school administration.
