Form 3 student found dead after being sent home for school fees

A Form Three student at Alara Mixed Secondary School was Wednesday found dead in his home at Kawanga village in Homa Bay County a day after he was sent home to collect school fees.

The body of the 16-year-old boy was found dangling from the ceiling of his parents bedroom by his parents who were unaware of what had happened.

The parents of the deceased are said to have been working on their farm as the incident happened.

According to the area Assistant chief James Adika, the parents said the deceased came home to collect fees on Tuesday and they gave him the money on Wednesday morning and left him to prepare and return to school.

It is then alleged that the deceased waited for his parents to leave and then hanged himself using a rope.

The chief added that investigations are underway even as the motive behind the incident remain unclear.

The body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referal Hospital Mortuary.
