Form One Selection A Sham, Private Schools Allege

Ndoro says the selection method used by the ministry of education has deterred students from private schools from joining schools of their choice.

Ndoro further claims that the new selection method is aimed more at locking out students from private schools from top national schools rather than helping students from disadvantaged areas.

“It is incorrect to say that poor pupils attend public schools and rich ones attend private schools,” Ndoro said

The CEO said that only 10 per cent of private schools in the country host students from a rich background adding that the rest cater for children from poor background.

Ndoro noted that Visa Oshwal, Aga Khan Primary and Nairobi Primary School are the only schools that were highly favoured in the selection.

“We want a system where the government targets individuals rather than institutions during the Form One selection,’ Ndoro said.

Ndoro further intimated that the Private Schools Association has no problem even if all the space is allocated to individuals from a poor background.

On Monday, education cabinet secretary Jacob Kaimenyi however indicated that the process was fully computerized to avert human interference.
