Form One student commits suicide

A Form One female student in Molo, Nakuru County has committed suicide by taking poison over suspected family issues.

The secondary school student died shortly after being rushed to St Joseph Hill Hospital on Thursday morning.

The Director of St Joseph Hospital, Florence Kabii, while confirming that the hospital was unable to save her life said that cases of suicide and attempted suicide in Molo had risen at an alarming rate.

“Recently, a male Class Five pupil who was fighting with a girl ran home to drink poison after other pupils laughed at him. Luckily, we were able to save him after his parents brought him to the hospital,” said Kabii.

Kabii called on Molo community leaders to address the matter.

“We should all come together – pastors, bishops, psychologists and counsellors – to see how we can provide counselling to our families and children so that we save our community,” Kabii said.

This comes at a time when residents in Molo are still mourning the suicide of a police officer stationed at the Molo Police Station who shot his wife dead before taking his own life.
