Form Two student commits suicide in Migori

Police are probing the death of a Form Two student who is reported to have committed suicide in Nyangao village in Rongo, Migori County.

The student from St. Mary’s Nyanga’o Secondary School is said to have killed himself on Saturday following a quarrel with his parents over his alleged drinking habit.

Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui said the boy’s parents reported that he had been returning home late and drunk, a habit he allegedly began a few months ago after getting into a new circle of friends.

The OCPD, however, said they are still following more leads to establish what might have compelled the student to commit suicide.

The body of the deceased, which was found dangling from a tree a few metres from their home, was moved to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary pending futher investigations.

The police boss called on families in the area to find better ways of resolving domestic disputes to avoid suicide-related deaths.

According to the OCPD, Migori County has been recording high cases of suicide which are majorly emanating from domestic wrangles.
