Form Two student killed by police stray bullet in Migori

A Form Two student was on Tuesday evening shot dead by a stray bullet fired by a police officer at Onger market in Nyatike Sub County, Migori County.

According to the eyewitnesses, Devis Lango Okumu — a student at Akala Secondary School — was shot dead by a female police officer who was among security officers controlling a mob that wanted to lynch a woman accused of pick-pocketing a trader at Onger market.

Mr. Odira Okumu, the uncle of the deceased, said the student was just strolling within Onger market when he was shot in the abdomen.

Migori Police boss Joseph Nthenge said he was yet to receive a proper brief on the incident hence could not comment on the matter.

A similar statement was issued by Nyatike Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Moses Mugambi who also said he is yet to confirm the information.

The boy died while being taken to Migori Level Four Hospital. His body has since been moved to the same hospital’s mortuary.
