Former anti-corruption boss joins Nairobi gubernatorial race

The Nairobi County Gubernatorial race is gaining momentum with contestants moving with speed to solicit votes from every part of the county.

Even as this happens, new entrants are also making known their intentions to contest for the city county top most post.

Former Kilome MP and business mogul John Harun Mwau is the latest entrant into the race.

Mwau, who has not, however, made the announcement official, is set to be unveiled by the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya (PICK), on Saturday, September 24 as their candidate for the hotly contested seat.

“Hon Mwau is an acclaimed businessman with vast experience in politics of this Country. He has a heart for the development of this country and Nairobi in particular. It is for this course and much more that we will be announcing and endorsing his candidature for the Governorship of the great Nairobi County and embracing his support to the youths of this country into his party PICK,” said the party in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Martin Kahura.

Mwau, a one time chairman of the defunct Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC), joins the growing list of candidates who want to control the massive resources allocated and generated by the County Government.

Among those eyeing the post currently occupied by Dr Evans Kidero include flamboyant Nairobi Senator, Gidion Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko, Dagoretti South MP, Dennis Waweru, nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s right man Miguna Miguna.
