Former County minister arrested over alleged corruption

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives from Isiolo County have arrested former Meru County Executive for Health over corruption allegations.

Dr. William Mutwiri Mulaa who was arrested in Meru, is accused of hiring three officers to his department in November 2015, contrary to directions issued by the county public service board.

According to Upper-Eastern Region EACC Coordinator Ignatious Wekesa, the board had conducted interviews and recommended on the persons to be hired, but the former County Health minister ignored the decision and picked other individuals to the position.

“The board forwarded names of the successful candidates to Chief Officer for Health but Dr. Mutwiri asked for the list of all the applicants, conducted his own interviews and handed jobs to other persons,” said Mr. Wekesa.

The former Health CEC  was taken to the EACC offices for interrogation before he is arraigned in court.
