Former Embu North DCIO Jerevasio Njeru charged with raping suspect at his office

Former Embu North DCIO Jerevasio Njeru was on Tuesday charged with raping a suspect inside his office.

Njeru who appeared before Chief magistrate Maxwell Gicheru pleaded not guilty.

He is charged that on May 31, 2020 at around 5pm, he raped a 42 years old woman at Manyatta Police Station.

Njeru also faces an alternative count of indecent act with an adult: he is further accused of touching her private parts without consent.

He was also changed with abuse of his position as a police officer.

The prosecution opposed that he be released on bond seeking that he be held until witnesses testify.

According to the prosecution, releasing the accused on bond will put the complainer at risk as she is still admitted to the Embu General Hospital.

The court was also that Njeru might intimidate junior officers who are witness in the case as he still wields some influence within police circles.

His lawyer Gichuki Momanyi applied that the Protection application be dismissed saying his client had been dismissed from the service and cannot interfere with officers.

Njeru was dismissed from the police force where he worked for the last 34 years.

The lawyer further said his client has no idea who the witnesses are as they recorded statements when he was police custody.

The magistrate is expected to issue a ruling on the bond application.
