Former GSU officer on death row escapes from prison

Police in Siaya County have launched a manhunt for two death row inmate and his accomplice who escaped from Siaya G.K Prison on Thursday evening.

Francis Musyoka Mutuku, an ex-GSU officer who had been sentenced to death after he was found guilty of robbery with violence escaped from the prison before disappearing in the nearby bush at around 6.30 pm.

The accomplice, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Meru court was however captured by flying squad officers.

Musyoka was an ex-GSU officer who was attached to anti-stock theft department until 2015 when he was sacked for gross misconduct.

Confirming the incident, Siaya OCPD Ancient Kaloki said that the culprit’s application for appeal had been turned down and has only been in Siaya GK prison for three weeks.

“We have not yet managed to track Musyoka’s whereabouts. We appeal to members of the public who may come across him to contact us immediately,” Mr. Kaloki told Citizen Digital.

According to one of the prison warders who did not want to be named, the inmate, together with his accomplice are suspected to have jumped over the prison fence before running into the thickets only to be discovered missing almost 20 minutes later.

A manhunt was formed and started combing the bushes and the entire town for the better part of the night.
