Former ICC suspect Joshua Sang says PNU fixed him

Former Kass FM presenter Joshua Arap Sang, whose case was alongside Deputy President William Ruto was vacated on Tuesday by the International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Chamber, now says the Party of National Unity (PNU) fixed them at The Hague.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Thursday morning, Sang said the case at the ICC was politically motivated and those in the government fixed him and five others.

“I did not expect to be in that list. There are many people who were involved in taking us to the ICC. Those who fixed me know it, they have announced themselves, there is no need to repeat it,” said Sang.

According to Sang, the ‘fixers’ tried all means to take them to the ICC, and later when they realized that what they had done was unfair, they worked hard to ensure the cases collapsed.

“Somebody like Moses Kuria came to our home to ask my parents for forgiveness. I have forgiven all those who fixed us and we are ready to build the nation,” stated Sang.

Sang says he is glad the charges against him were vacated.

“I am happy that we have been freed from the lies we have been carrying for the last six years. The prosecution was not able to prove the charges they had brought against us,” said Sang.

“I am ready to serve the Kenyan people. I am free, I am now ready to go on.”

So, would Sang be willing to work for the Jubilee government?

“I respect the President. If he and the Deputy President see that I am good enough to serve Kenyans in any position, I will accept.”

On Tuesday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) vacated  the crimes against humanity case against Deputy President William Ruto and his co-accused Joshua Arap Sang.

In its decision, the ICC cited witness interference and political meddling in its ruling.

“The proceedings are declared a mistrial due to a troubling incidence of witness interference and intolerable political meddling,” read the ICC statement.

In October 2015, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria apologised to Kenyans for apparently fixing Deputy President William Ruto and Radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In an interview on Citizen TV’s The Big Question show, Kuria expressed his remorse for the role he played in procuring witnesses that were used to implicate Ruto and Sang at the ICC.

“I have already apologised to Ruto’s wife Rachel and their kids who are my good friends as well as the parents of Sang for the role I played in the cases facing them,’ said Moses Kuria.

He challenged ODM leader Raila Odinga to also apologise for allegedly fixing Ruto at the ICC through the letter he purportedly wrote to the UN Security Council advocating against the deferral of the cases.

“Odinga should also apologize for his role in fixing Ruto and come forward to be a witness for the Deputy President in order for him to be exonerated,” stated Kuria.

In February 2016, Kuria, who has previously admitted to procuring witnesses for the ICC prosecution, said that the case against Ruto and Sang was politically instigated.

“When I spoke out last year about this (the procuring of witnesses), some people said I was crazy. I said that we should speak the truth and shame the devil – those things that happened in Kenya were politically instigated.”
