Former Java CEO in Ksh.7.9M fraud case released on Ksh.500K cash bail

Former Java CEO Derrick Cornelius Van Houten has been arraigned for allegedly obtaining Ksh.7,911,000 by false pretence.

According to a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Van Houten appeared before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to answer the charges.

The court heard that the accused fraudulently obtained the said mount from Awil Abdirahman Adulle with the promise of helping him construct a Java Hotel in Narok between 2021 and 2022.

“Derrick Cornelius Van Houten, is alleged to have obtained a total of Ksh.7, 911,000 from Awil Abdirahman Adulle alleging to be in a position to approve and construct a Java Hotel for him in Narok town,” stated the ODPP.

“The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between October 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022, in Nairobi County where he worked as the CEO of Java.”

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the offence and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.500, 000.
