Former Kamukunji aspirant Ibrahim Ahmed Johnny dies in Nairobi

Ibrahim Ahmed, a senior official at the Jamia Mosque and a former Kamukunji parliamentary seat aspirant, has died.

Ahmed, who was known by his alias ‘Johny,’ died at the Coptic Hospital on Friday morning after a brief illness, according to his family.

Jamia Mosque in Nairobi said: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you of the passing away of our brother Ibrahim Ahmed Yusuf alias Johnny, the Deputy Secretary-General of Jamia Mosque. May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”

The mosque said the burial and janaza prayers will be at Lang’ata Muslim Cemetery on Friday at 12pm.

Until his demise, Johny was Jamia Mosque’s Deputy Secretary General.

Kamukunji MP Ibrahim Hassan said on Twitter: Mourning the death of the well known Kamukunji political figure Ibrahim Ahmed aka Johnny. What a devastating loss to the community. My condolences to his family and friends. May Allah grant him Jannatul-Firdaus. Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return.

“Johnny & I came a long way. We, of course, engaged in three hotly contested elections in Kamukunji, but have subsequently become good friends. We also have family ties that go back a long way.He was deeply concern about the well-being of the ppl & always spoke for their rights.”

The ODM party also published a message of condolence revealing that the deceased had been battling kidney problems for years.

Lawyer Donald Kipkorir said on Twitter: “I met Ibrahim Johnny in 1988 in UoN Law Class & we’ve been friends since. He was a conscientious man. He was a religious man. He was very loyal to Baba & ODM. Johnny had been unwell for many years. Let’s mourn & celebrate his life. Let’s not tar it with gossip & conjecture.”

Alamin Kimanthi said: I’ve lost a good friend, Muslim brother and comrade in many struggles. May Allah grant you janatul firdaus Bro @Ibrahimjohnny. Inalillahi waina illehi rajeoon.”

Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Federation Mohammed Hersi said: “Ina Lillahi Wa Ina Illahi Rajioun. Kullu nafsin zaiqatul maut, while Every soul shall taste death your sudden passing away is a shock @Ibrahimjohnny we will miss you. May Allah Grant Him Jannatul Firdoush.A man who was in the heart of the community. Eastleigh is today poorer.”
