Former Kiambu politician Gladys Chania charged over Ksh.200K fraud

Gladys Chania Mwangi has been charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.

She was arraigned at the Thika Law Courts on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chania once served as Coordinator for The National Alliance Party (TNA) in Kiambu.

This was before the party was merged to form Jubilee Party in the run up to the 2017 elections.

Currently, she is a community leader and operates a rehabilitation facility for alcoholics in Thika under the name Right At Home Rehabilitation Centre.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga on Thursday, the Prosecution averred that on diverse dates within Thika Sub county netween April 2017 and 2018, the accused defrauded Eric Gathogo out of Ksh. 199,000 and Martin Mwangi Ksh. 200,000.

The court was told that the accused promised to help the complainants travel to the United States after making a down-payment.

Advocate Gathii Irungu who appeared on behalf of the accused pleaded with court to give her a lenient bond.

She was released on Ksh. 80,000 cash bail or Ksh. 400,000 bond.

The case will be heard on October 8, 2019.
