Former Lands Boss Summoned Over Lamu Allocations

Mabea is expected to give evidence on how the controversial 22 Lamu tittles were allocated.

The meeting with Mabea comes hot on the heels of another forum organized yesterday where stakeholders gave their opinion about the land saga.

During yesterday's meeting, it emerged that 9 companies claiming parcels of land in Lamu were not registered with the Registrar of Companies

The Commission commenced probe into the illegal allocation of 500,000 acres of land in Lamu County over a month ago.

Among those who have already appeared before the NLC committee for grilling are directors of the companies that allegedly benefitted from the Lamu allocations.

This was after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the revocation of titles of 22 entities.

The affected companies are Rusken International Limited, Mat International, Witu Nyangoro Company, Witu Conservative Self Help Group, Shanghai Investment Limited, Fincorp Investments Limited, Kaab Investments, Sheila Ranch Limited, Dynamic Trading Company Limited, Savannah Fresh Fruits Exports, Mokowe Kibokoni Ranch Limited, Panda Nguo Boni Community and Baragoni Boni Community.

Five other huge tracts of land were registered as ranches. They are Khalrala Ranch, Cyberdom Investments, Baragoni Ranch, Enganani Ranch, Amu Ranch and Maalim Ranch.

Land that was meant for the multi-trillion LAPSSET corridor project is part of the grabbed parcels.

13 out of the 21 berths for the Lamu port have also been irregularly allocated to individuals.

Many locals from Lamu County continue to throng the ACK building  where the hearing is being conducted.

The National Land Commission has maintained that it is the only body that will decide whether to revoke Title Deeds for the lands irregularly allocated in Lamu.
