Former MCA arrested over murder of Sharon Otieno

A former Member of County Assembly has been arrested in connection with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Mr. Lawrence Mula was arrested on Sunday night at Homa Bay Police Station where he had gone to record a statement with the police in the ongoing probe into Sharon’s murder.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum said Mr. Mula is set to be arraigned in court alongside Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo, a prime suspect in the murder.

Nation journalist Barrack Oduor, who had been abducted alongside Sharon but managed to escape, had claimed that the former MCA  introduced him to Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Citizen Digital understands that detectives have widened their search for Sharon’s killers beyond the original four who kidnapped her and journalist Oduor to several others who they believe worked closely with the killers.

Police are also inspecting several places Sharon visited before her murder as well as scrutinising her phone records for clues.

Calls to anonymous numbers allegedly made by Migori Governor Okoth Obado ‘s personal assistant Michael Oyamo before Sharon’s body was found, are also being investigated.

Detectives are also hoping to identify the person who picked Sharon and Barrack from the hotel in the hotel’s CCTV footage. DNA tests are yet to be conducted to give further evidence.
