- Ndungu had been in custody since January 24 when he was accused of being in possession of weapons used to kill his wife.
The High Court in Kiambu on Friday February 9, charged former Riruta ward MCA Samuel Ndungu Njoroge with murdering his wife, Lucy Njambi.
The suspect, who was arraigned before High Court Judge Joel Ngugi, however, denied killing Ms Njambi on January 24, 2018.
Ndungu had been in custody since January 24, when he was accused of being in possession of the weapons used to kill his wife.
Through his lawyer, Robert Mutitu, Ndungu applied for bail, arguing that the suspect should be released on bail as he had already spent 16 days in police custody.
“My client is just as aggrieved as the plaintiff. The deceased is my client’s ex-wife and has also affected him considerably. It is his constitutional right,” submitted Mr. Mutitu.
However, the deceased’s family lawyer opposed the application, saying he poses a threat to witnesses and was likely to intimidate them.
The accused will be remanded at the Nairobi Rehabilitation Remand until February 19, when the case will be mentioned.
