Former Minister calls for sobriety in reforming IEBC

Former Cabinet Minister for Cooperatives Peter Njeru Ndwiga has asked political parties to exercise sobriety while addressing issues sorrounding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and calls by the opposition to disband the electoral body.

Ndwiga says that by the clamour for removal of IEBC commissioners by the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) is not good for the country will approximately one year to the next elections.

Ndwiga said that the move by CORD to push for removal of IEBC commissioner from office without looking into critical electoral issues will only amount to chaos.

He said that by removing the commissioners from office, the country will not have solved the questions that emerge after every General Election.

The former Manyatta MP said that even if the country was to get the best brains to man elections in 2017 without first putting into place the issue of Biometric Voter Registration kits and registrations manual, losers will still complain about the IEBC.

He said that the current IEBC was put in place after promulgation of the new constitution and CORD leader Raila Odinga, then the Prime Minister, was involved in the appointment process.
