Former MP accuses traffic cop of slapping him twice, injuring his cheek

Investigations are presently ongoing into an incident where former Gatundu North Member of Parliament Clement Kungu Waibara alleges that he was assaulted by a traffic police officer.

According to a police report, the incident allegedly happened on July 31, 2019 as Mr. Waibara, his wife Winnie Wairimu Mburu and two other passengers were driving towards Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

At around 7:30pm, the report added, they reached T-Mall and the former legislator got off the car to enquire from a traffic officer manning the roundabout about the shortest route to KNH.

“Instead the traffic officer manning the roundabout started violently pushing and slapped him (Mr. Waibara) twice on the face injuring his left eye and cheek,” added the report.

The ex-MP was reportedly rescued by another traffic officer who was in the vicinity, before he was taken for treatment and was referred by his doctor to make a formal assault complaint.
