Former MP wants Duale prosecuted over alleged incitement
Wiper deputy leader, Farah Maalim, together with the Amani National Congress (ANC) deputy party leader, Captain Abdi Yare Mohammed, have urged the government to take action against National Assembly Majority Leader, Aden Duale, over what they term as incitement to violence.
Speaking after recording a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi, Maalim said that he has evidence to show that Duale is the one captured in an audio recording threatening certain communities not to register as voters in his Garissa Township Constituency.
Maalim, who is also eyeing Garissa Township Parliamentary seat currently held by Duale castigated the Majority Leader’s alleged sentiments saying such utterances could lead to loss of lives.
“We want to see whether this government’s stand on hate speech and incitement applies selectively,” said Maalim.
On his part, ANC deputy party leader, Yale told the press that it was unfortunate how the Majority Leader was going round denouncing the clip and no one is taking action.
“We are not expecting anything short of what we saw with Pangani Six if the government is sincere,” said Yare.
This follows after an audio clip alleged to be Duale’s went viral but the MP dismissed as a fabrication.
Taking on twitter, Duale said: “An audio clip in circulation online is fake and crude propaganda.”
“It is the work of a bygone era politician attempting to cook fake news.”
Speaking to Citizen Digital on phone, an agitated Duale said that he will not be responding in public insisting that it is a concocted clip and will not dignify such actions with a response.
Elsewhere, Members of Parliament from Ukambani now want Duale arrested for allegedly making inflammatory statement against the Kamba community in Garissa.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission Chairman, Francis Ole Kaparo, has confirmed receipt of the clip and said that the Commission will probe the alleged utterances linked to Duale.
