Mudavadi quits UDF party

Former deputy Prime Minister and presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi has resigned as the United Democratic Forum (UDF) party leader.

Mudavadi has officially written to the officials of the party and the registrar of political parties to communicate his resignation from the party which he used to vie for presidency in the 2013 General Elections.

Speaking to the media, Mudavadi’s spokesman Kibisu Kabatesi has, however, indicated that the former deputy premier is now the party leader of newly formed party ANC which he will use in the 2017 presidential race.

Before joining UDF, Mudavadi was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) but left the party over what he termed as lack of internal democracy.

He joined the Jubilee coalition for a short period in early 2013 before quitting after President Uhuru Kenyatta (then a presidential candidate) refused to abandon his presidential bid in favour of Mudavadi.

This signaled the formation of the Amani coalition that brought together UDF, New Ford Kenya and Ford Kenya among other parties especially from the former Western province.

Mudavadi finished a distance third in the 2013 presidential race that was won by Mr Kenyatta.

CORD leader Raila Odinga finished second.
