Former president Jimmy Carter admitted to hospital for third time

Former United States President  Jimmy Carter has been admitted to hospital for the third time this year, to undergo a brain surgery.

The 95 year old is now the oldest living former president of the US.

He was admitted to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and the Carter Center said the procedure is  to relieve pressure on his brain caused by his recent falls.

According to CNN, the former president was hospitalized twice last month after he fell in his house in Plains, Georgia.

He had to get 14 stitches above his brow after his first fall after hitting his forehead on a sharp edge.

Carter later received treatment for a minor pelvic fracture after his second fall.

The former U.S. leader was spotted with a black eye when he made a public appearance at Nashville in October.

He was addressing a group of volunteers and he said it was as a result of falling down.

“I fell down and hit my forehead on a sharp edge and had to go to the hospital where they took 14 stitches in my forehead and my eye is black, as you’ve noticed.” he said.
