Former prison warden commits suicide in mothers kitchen

A 58-year-old man on Monday night committed suicide at his mother’s home in Kaburandi village, Koibatek, Baringo County.

According to sources close to the man, the deceased, who was a former prison warden, had an ongoing stock theft case at Eldama Ravine Police Station whose potential outcome is believed to have been bothering him.

“The body of the deceased was found hanging in the locked kitchen by one of his sisters in an incident that shocked locals,” said Koibatek, OCPD Agnes Kamau.

“The woman who found the body had gone out to relieve herself at around 2am. Upon realizing that the kitchen lights which she had earlier been switched off were on, she proceeded to the kitchen. She opened the kitchen door only to find the man hanging from the ceiling.”

The body of the deceased was moved to Eldama Ravine sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the suicide.
