Former Senator Kyle McCarter has been confirmed as the new US Ambassador to Kenya and is set to take over from Robert Godec.

Confirmation of McCarter as the US Ambassador to Kenya was announced on Thursday by Mr. Godec, who held the position for six years.

“Congratulations Kyle McCarter on your confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the next U.S. Ambassador to Kenya! It’s been an honor & privilege to serve here for six years,” tweeted Godec as he expressed his gratitude and that of his wife for serving in Kenya.

“Lori & I will forever cherish our friendships & memories of this beautiful country & its extraordinary people.”

Mr. McCarter, 56, was nominated for the Nairobi post by US President Donald Trump in March last year.

He was vetted by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which is mandated to clear ambassadorial appointments, before a confirmation vote by the full Senate.
