Former US President Bill Clinton in the Country

Accompanied by his daughter Chelsea Clinton and several donors, Bill Clinton arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at around 12:30am and was received by Deputy President William Ruto, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and Elegyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Later in the day, Chelsea Clinton visited Mbangathi District Hospital to access the work of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in educating families about the use of Zinc/ORD in treating diarrhea.

Mr. Clinton will be in the country for three days as part of his nine-day tour of African countries including Tanzania, Liberia and Morocco to inspect development projects funded by the foundation focusing on agriculture, health, education and wildlife conservation.

From Kenya, Bill and Chelsea will head to Liberia and Morocco as they conclude their tour which began in Tanzania early this week.

Clinton’s first major visit to Africa came in 1998, when he was President of the United States making the longest and most extensive trip to the continent ever made by a sitting president.

In 2012, both Clinton and his daughter Chelsea travelled to Africa again to visit Clinton Foundation sites in South Africa, Rwanda, and Uganda before Chelsea returned in October the same year for the launch of Nigerian government’s One Million Lives Initiative aimed at reducing child mortality.
