Four charged with murder of University of Nairobi don

Four suspects were on Monday charged at a Machakos Court with the murder of University of Nairobi lecturer Prof Stephen Nzuve.

The four, who appeared before Machakos Chief Magistrate Lucy Mbugua, were charged with four counts including murder and robbery with violence

The four who were arrested in Nairobi are accused of attacking Prof Nzuve’s home in Kyakatulu village in Tala County while armed with a pistol and robbing the professor of his belongings before killing him.

They were denied bail after the prosecution opposed their bond application.

The late University of Nairobi lecturer was shot dead in cold blood on returning home after seeing off his friends and relatives who had attended his wife’s graduation party at his home two weeks ago.

The gunmen are reported to have waited for the gate to be opened before forcing their way into his compound.

They then told the professor to lie face down on the sofa before shooting him in the head and escaping.

His wife rushed him to Kangundo Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case will be heard on the 11th of January 2015.
