Four children drown in Kirinyaga

Four children drowned on Monday evening in two separate incidents in Kirinyaga County.

Two girls, aged three and four, had climbed a tree next to Murango River in Rukanga village, Mwea Constituency when they fell into the raging waters.

The two, who are cousins were in the company of one of their parents in the farm when they left to play on the tree.

The girls were overwhelmed and swept away by the waters.  One body has since been recovered while the search for the other child is ongoing.

In the second incident, two brothers — aged 10 and seven — were on a swimming adventure at a dam in Gacharu village, Ndhia Constituency when they drowned.

Area Member of County Assembly Peter Njomo said the bodies of three children who had been recovered have been moved to Kibugi mortuary.
