Four drug peddlers arrested in Embu

Police in Embu have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 118 rolls of bhang.

Embu West OCPD Francis Sang, who led the crackdown, said that peddlers were using Matatus to ferry the drugs to and from Nairobi.

In his statement, Sang said that the peddlers hang around the bus parks where Matatus hoot before they hand over the drugs to the driver or a passenger on board.

The OCPD said that the four were arrested after the ongoing crackdown on counterfeit goods by the police following an outcry by residents on the high number of substandard goods.

“Some drug peddlers were running kiosks along the stage thus being able to convey the drugs to the users who are mainly the youth,” said Sang.

He added that the four will be arraigned in court while the Matatus involved in drug trafficking will be impounded and the crew arrested.

The crackdown is set to continue with an aim of flushing out drug peddlers in the county and especially in the slums.

In August, over 40 suspects were arrested and 53 sachets of heroin and bhang seized in some parts of Changamwe, Mombasa County after security agencies conducted a crackdown on drugs dens in the area.

The crackdown was done barely a few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared war on drugs and ordered security agencies to join hands with all stake-holders and flush-out drug barons in the coast region.
