Four Homa Bay High School students charged with attempted arson

Four students of Homa Bay High School were on Thursday charged with attempted arson.

The four are among more than 30 students who were arrested and questioned by the police after an attempted arson at the institution on Wednesday.

Appearing before Homa Bay Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu, the four were jointly charged with attempting to burn a dormitory in the school.

The Homa Bay High School students pleaded not guilty and were released on a bond of Ksh.50, 000 each with a surety of a similar amount.

The mentioning of the case was set for July 31, 2018.

Three secondary schools in Homa Bay County are now counting heavy losses after three dormitories were gutted down by fire in the rising case of student unrest across the country.

The latest fire incident at occurred at Gendia Boys High School in Rachuonyo North sub-county where a dormitory was razed down on Thursday morning.

Oriwo Boys and Kandiege Mixed Secondary Schools in the same sub-county were also closed indefinitely after two dormitories were torched early this week.
