Four MCSK imposters seized for extorting motorists

Four suspects have been arrested in Mombasa for masquerading as officials from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and extorting money from motorists.

They are accused of working with two police officers to stage-manage a crackdown on those playing music illegally along the busy Nyali Bridge and Kingeleni Road. The officers apparently managed to escape.

According to an official from the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB), the suspects were mostly targeting matatus whose drivers were forced to part with Ksh.1000-5000.

(KFCB) Coast branch boss Bonventure Kioko said the four mounted illegal road blocks in Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties to carry out the crime.

A section of drivers that had their driving licenses and car keys confiscated were grounded the scene as the suspects disappeared with the keys.

The four are currently being interrogated at Nyali Police Station in Mombasa County.

Mr. Kioko said his office has been receiving several complaints of harassment from matatu operators in the county.
