Four killed, 16 injured in matatu accident in Murang’a

Four people died and 16 others were injured on Tuesday evening after a 14-seater matatu collided with a lorry at the Maragwa bridge on Murang’a-Kenol Road.

The accident is said to have occurred after the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle and drove into the lane that the matatu was using, causing a head-on collision.

The matatu was heading to Murang’a town from Nairobi while the lorry moving in the opposite direction.

Confirming the incident, Murang’a County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua said one person died on the spot while the three others succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital.

Out of the 16 who were injured, three are reported to be in critical condition.

The two vehicles were towed to Maragwa Police Station as investigations into the accident continue.
