Four Killed in Three Day Turkana Village Siege

Four Killed in Three Day Turkana Village Siege

The attackers believed to be from neighboring Pokot community are reported to have surrounded the village since Monday and held the more than 500 villagers hostage.

Residents, who are now living in fear, say they are not able to leave their houses to tend to their duties and get food for fear of being attacked and killed by the raiders.

Lorogon residents claim the Pokot raiders attacked the village claiming ownership of the land in which the village lies and intend to forcefully eject them.

So far, residents say they have not received any help from either national or county government in the siege that is approximately seven kilometres from Pokot-Turkana border.

The Pokot and Turkana communities have suffered ethnic tension for decades now, this is because of the constant fighting over pasture and livestock between the Turkana and Pokot communities.

The residents have called the government to settle on an agreement to call for a truce.
