Four KWS officers arrested over alleged murder detained for 10 more days

Four Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers arrested over the alleged murder of a 47-year-old man in Kirinyaga have been detained for 10 more days pending conclusion of investigations.

Appearing before Gichugu Resident Magistrate GK Odhiambo; Moses Thuo, John Kisulu, Morris Mbae and Bonface – through their lawyer Munga Ndichu – requested to be released on bond.

The family of the deceased, through lawyer Ndegwa Njiru and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Walter Asiyo, had requested the court to hold them for 14 days.

Magistrate Odhiambo ordered the four rangers to remain in custody for 10 days until April 1, 2019 during which medical check-up is also expected to be conducted on them.

The suspects are accused of murdering Ngare Nyaga and assaulting two other people at Mt. Kenya Forest on March 12, 2019.

Mr. Nyaga had been reported missing for a couple of days before his body was on March 16, 2019 found dumped in River Nyamindi.

The two other victims earlier alleged that, after the assault by the rangers, they were then arrested and taken to Kianyaga Police Station where they were booked on illegal logging charges.

The officers were arraigned at the Kirinyaga Law Courts on Friday on assault charges but were detained pending investigations.
