Four MCAs in police custody for trespassing on private land

Four ward representatives were on Thursday, September 29 arrested and detained at the Siaya Police Station after they stormed Dominion Farms in Yala Swamp in attempt to open an access road.

The Siaya County Assembly members, Leonard Oriaro (Central Alego), Elisha Okuku (East Yimbo), Sylvester Madialo (Usonga) and Nicholas Aneme (South Sakwa), wanted to pull down a gate that was put up by a European investor.

Drama unfolded when the MCAs, who had planned to address the public at the nearby Msungru grounds in Kadenge Ratuoro, found heavily armed police who had cordoned off the area.

The MCAs retreated but sneaked into the farm using another entrance leading to a confrontation with police who then arrested them.

Three weeks ago, Siaya Governor, Cornel Rasanga, had ordered the European investor to open the access road to allow the community members to use it warning that he would be forced to mobilise the public to forcefully open the blocked access road.
