Four missing hikers found three days later
It was a relief as four people who went missing on Saturday, October 8 while on a hiking expedition on Aberdare Ranges were found alive Monday, October 10.
The three hikers and a tour guide, identified as Racheal Ngendo, Eunice Wanjiru, Kevin Kahariri and Joseph Mwangi, disappeared on Saturday, spending two nights in the cold and surviving only on water before they were rescued.
The dramatic search that led to their discovery deep inside the forest was carried out by joint teams from the Kenya Police and the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) among other agencies.
Police helicopters hovered over the Aberdares in efforts to locate the lost with a similar search on the ground as rescuers combed the thick forest.
Before long the hikers heard the choppers and quickly lit a fire to attract the attention of the pilots, who then spotted them.
The four have since been airlifted to Nairobi for medical examination.
