Four more patients dead as Kenya records 178 new COVID-19 cases

Four more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus in Kenya raising the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 581.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health also announced that 178 more people have tested positive, from a sample size of 3,474, bringing to 34, 493 the number of confirmed positive cases.

“From the cases, all are Kenyans except 5 who are foreigners. In terms of gender, 110 are males and 68 females. The youngest is a three-year child, while the oldest is 77,” the Ministry said.

The distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 48, Kericho 24, Busia 22, Garissa 12, Kiambu 12, Kisii 10, Kisumu 9, Uasin Gishu 8, Nakuru 7, Embu 6, Bomet 4, Mombasa 3, Kitui 2, Machakos 2, Narok 2, Laikipia 1, Meru 1, Siaya 1, Isiolo 1, Makueni 1, Murang’a 1 and Nyeri 1.

At the same time, 238 patients have recovered from the disease, 187 from the Home-Based Care Program, and 51 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 20,449.

In terms of Sub County distribution, the 48 cases in Nairobi, are in, Lang’ata (9), Dagoretti North and Westlands (7) cases each, Starehe (5), Embakasi East (4), Makadara (3), Embakasi Central, Embakasi West, Kasarani, Roysambu and Ruaraka (2) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North and Kamukunji (1) case each.

In Kericho, the 24 cases are in Ainamoi (23) and Belgut (1). In Busia, the 22 cases are in Matayos (17, Teso North (3) and Teso South (2).

In Garissa, the 12 cases are in Garissa Town (8) and Dadaab (4) while in Kiambu, the 12 cases are in Ruiru (7), Kiambaa (2), Githunguri, Lari and Thika (1) case each.

In Kisii, the 10 cases are all in Kitutu Chache South while in Kisumu, the 9 cases are in Nyakach (5), Kisumu Central (3) and Kisumu West (1).

In Uasin Gishu, all the 8 cases are in Ainabkoi, while the 7 cases in Nakuru, are in Nakuru West (4), Molo, Nakuru East and Nakuru North (1) case each. In Embu, the 6 cases are in Manyatta (4) and Mbeere South (2), while in Bomet, all the 4 cases are in Bomet East.

In Mombasa, the 3 cases are Mvita (2) and Nyali (1), the 2 cases in Kitui, are all in Kitui Central, the 2 cases in Machakos, are in Athi River and Machakos Town (1) case each, the 2 cases in Narok, are in Narok North and Narok West (1) case each. The case in Laikipia, is in Laikipia East, the case in Meru, is in Imenti North, the case in Siaya, is in Alego Usonga, the case in Isiolo, is in Isiolo Town, the case in Makueni, is in the town, the case in Murang’a, is in Kiharu and the case in Nyeri, is in Nyeri Central.
