Four notorious robbery with violence suspects terrorizing Central Region arrested

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday arrested four notorious robbery with violence suspects who have been terrorizing residents of Central Region.

The four, among them three men and one woman, are accused of ushering victims into their car by calling out their names or identifying their places of work.

Once the victims are on board, the suspects then reportedly beat them up, blindfold and tie their legs and arms before robbing them.

The sleuths, who were acting on intelligence, intercepted a motor vehicle model Toyota Premio and arrested the first two suspects, 35-year-old David Kinyua Kairu and 26-year-old Jane Wanjiru Macharia, who surrendered.

Seven mobile phones, several ATM cards and a motor vehicle number plate were recovered from their car.

The detectives also established that one of the suspects, Kinyua, had a pending robbery case at Thika Law Courts, while the other – Wanjiru – has a pending murder case at Nanyuki High Court.

Wanjiru and her father, Charles Macharia, were in 2018 arrested in connection with a murder after they were found in possession of a deceased person’s vehicle and other electronics in their house in Gatanga.

Wanjiru, according to the DCI, also fitted the description by a victim who alleged that – on June 10, 2020 – he was robbed at gunpoint, his KCB ATM card taken and forced to reveal his pin.

He was then forcefully driven to KCB ATM booth at Kenol where Wanjiru allegedly withdrew a sum of Ksh. 100,000 and was captured on CCTV.

The third robbery with violence suspect, 42-year-old Isaac Mwangi Wachira, was tracked down to Githurai 44 where he was arrested and several ATM and ID cards bearing different names recovered. Wachira has a pending case of stealing at a Thika court.

The final suspect, 28-yr-old Moses Maina Ndegwa, was pursued and arrested along Sagana-Kenol road and a Toyota NZE which he was using detained. Ndegwa also has a pending case of stealing at Nanyuki Law Courts.

The detectives have since contacted various police stations in Central Region where reports of robbery by the gang have been recorded including in Kandara, Murang’a East, Mathioya, Sagana and Mathira.

The police stations will collect the suspects for further legal procedures once they have been arraigned at Kigumo Law Courts.
