Four police officers to be charged with murder

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has now recommended that four police officers be charged with murder.

In one case, IPOA, after conducting investigations, forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions recommending that constable Rajab Korir be charged with murder of Bernard Ogutu which occurred on September 25th, 2013 at Carmel Guest House in Mbotela.

The authority has also, through a case file to the DPP, recommended that three police officers Silas Mutuma Marimi, Constable Reuben Maino and Constable Wycliffe Wangila Sikuku be charged with murder of Caren Chepkoech Rono who died on July 8th, 2014.

According to Richard Rono, Caren’s father the post-mortem report indicated that his daughter was hit several times on the head and shoulder with a crude object.

Rono added that the pathologist’s report also contradicted police claims that the barmaid had jumped out of a moving police vehicle while drunk.

Following a meeting of the Kuresoi District Security Committee after Caren’s death, officials decided to transfer the officers accused of murder to other stations awaiting further probe.
