Four sentenced to 25 years in jail over murder in Homa Bay

Four men were Thursday sentenced to 25 years in jail each after they were found guilty of killing a man at Kakuwa Village in Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County.

The accused; Emmanuel Odhiambo, Justo Odhiambo, Preston Ayayo and Peter Ochieng’ were charged that on January 23, 2015 they raided Charles Juma’s house where they attacked and killed him.

The court heard that on the material day at around midnight, the four accused persons and others not before the court raided the home of the deceased and demanded for a matchbox while the family of the deceased had already slept.

The family raised an alarm during the attack but nobody came to their rescue, with the accused proceeding to beat Mr. Juma to a pulp causing him injuries that led to his death.

Satisfied with the prosecution’s submission, High Court judge Joseph Karanja handed each of the accused persons 25 years behind bars at Homa Bay GK prison.

In mitigation the accused persons pleaded with the court for leniency saying they have families and children who entirely depend on them.

The accused were given 14 days to appeal the court ruling.
