Four suspected Mungiki members arrested in connection with Nakuru attacks

Police in Nakuru have arrested four people in connection with attacks on residents believed to have been carried out by two gangs in the town’s Flamingo Estate. The bunch of hooligans known separately as ‘dragon’ and ‘confidence’ has been terrorizing people in the area robbing them of their valuables.

Led by officer in charge of the Administration Police in Nakuru, Barnabas Kimutai, the officers combed through Flamingo Estate following a tip-off on planned attacks.

The officers arrested four suspects and recovered illicit brews, two kilograms of bhang, several machetes and Sim cards from one of the houses used by the gangs.

Residents are now living in fear of the gangs that have declared war on anyone who reports them despite assurances of their safety from the police. The residents have been urged to continue volunteering information on the suspects and not to hide any of the gang members whose intention is to disrupt peace.

Last week, suspected gang members attacked two people who were heading home at around 6PM leaving them with deep cuts.

The incident prompted heightened police patrols in Flamingo and Kivumbini areas. The emergence of the two gangs has reignited concerns that the once dreaded Mungiki sect could be regrouping.
