Four suspects charged with murder of activist Carol Mwatha

Four suspects were on Wednesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts and charged with the murder of activist Carol Mwatha Ochieng in Dandora.

The four; Betty Akinyi Nyanya, Michael Onyonka Onchiri, Richard Ramoya and Alexander Gitau Gikonya however did not take plea since three of them had no advocates on record as the law requires.

The court also found that the suspects were yet to be assessed mentally to ascertain if they are fit to stand trial as required.

The suspects who were before Justice Stella Mutuku are accused that on the nights of February 6th and 7th, 2019,if they did not cause, they murdered Carol Mwatha Ochieng in Dandora, Nairobi County.

Justice Stella Mutuku directed that the police take them for mental examination and ordered that they all have legal representation before taking plea on Monday March 4, 2019.

Mwatha is reported to have gone missing on Wednesday, February 6 with her disappearance being reported at Buru Buru Police Station on Friday, February 8 2019.

Her body was found at the City Mortuary in Nairobi on February 12, 2019.

Sources told Citizen Digital that the activists body was booked at the morgue by a private citizen at around 4am on February 12, 2019.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, Ms. Mwatha died following a botched abortion procedure at a clinic within Dandora Phase 1 in Nairobi on February 6, 2019 — the day she went missing.
