French military jets prepare for raid against IS in Syria

The French military released a video on Sunday (January 3) showing fighter jets being prepared for air strikes against an industrial site controlled by Islamic State near Aleppo, Syria.

The raid, which took place between Saturday (January 2) night and Sunday, targeted a factory which was used by the group to build makeshift rockets and store arms, the French military said on its website.

The site was destroyed during the raid, the statement read.

In the video four Rafale fighter jets were seen being prepared for the mission and being loaded with two Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian spent the New Year visiting French troops taking part in ‘Operation Chammal’, France’s mission against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

France was the first country to join U.S.-led air strikes in Iraq. Since the November 13 attacks on Paris, it has increased its aerial bombing of Islamic State in Syria, focusing on the Syrian city of Raqqa and oil-related targets.
