Fresh presidential poll to be held on October 26

The electoral commission has pushed the date for the fresh presidential poll to Thursday, October 26, citing the need for the agency to be fully prepared to deliver an election that meets Constitutional standards.

“There is no doubt that the Supreme Court impacts on the election operations and in particular technology to be deployed,” said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, on statement released on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court majority decision blamed the commission for bungling the electronic results transmission which led to the nullification of the presidential poll.

Responding to the decision on Thursday, however, President Kenyatta accused the four Supreme Court judges who annulled his victory of robbing him of his victory.

Still, President Kenyatta pledged the agency his total support, reiterating his decision to abide by the Supreme Court decision.

Earlier on Thursday, President Kenyatta and his Deputy President, William Ruto, while addressing North Easter leaders at State House, Nairobi, accused the Supreme Court of orchestrating a judicial coup, an accusation already leveled on the apex court by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu in his anti-Maraga petion.
