Fuel trucks recalled after being loaded with water instead of petrol

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) depot in Kisumu has recalled all fuel trucks after they were mistakenly loaded with water instead of petrol.

Depot Manager Eng. Herman Amunga confirmed the Tuesday mishap saying undisclosed number of trucks could have been affected.

Eng. Amunga said the recalled trucks had not offloaded in their destinations when the mishap was detected.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi on phone, he stated that an assessment process is ongoing at the KPC depot to ascertain the source of the mishap.

The manager added that parameter checks are being carried out in all the trucks that loaded in the morning from the depot after they received complaints from a few drivers, prompting them to recall all the trucks.

Eng. Amunga dispelled any cause for alarm saying KPC will give a detailed report after checks have been completed.

“Following this unfortunate incident, all the 14 trucks which had been loaded and left the station have been recalled. We immediately stopped loading from all the affected tank (28-TK-201) and our personnel have started decanting the affected trucks back into the station and so far, seven trucks have been decanted,” read a statement from Joe Sang, the Managing Director, KPC.

The statement confirmed that all the trucks affected had returned to the depot.

“As at 1440hrs all the fourteen trucks that left, have come back and we are confirming the quality parameters befroe offloading. KPC would like to assure the public that all is under control.”
