Gang attacks home of former presidential escort officer

A gang attacked the home of former presidential escort official and set a car ablaze on Friday night.

The gang, believed to be seven in number, raided the home of Micheal Kimutai at 11.00pm at Shimo La Tewa estate and tried to hurl a petrol bomb into the house.

Two of the attackers had climbed and accessed the compound through the perimeter fence and when the dogs confronted them.

They, however, managed to set ablaze one of the cars before the guard dogs chased them away.

Kimutai said he had arrived home at 10:00pm and retired to bed.  Shortly afterward, he heard the dogs barking followed by a loud explosion.

“When I peeped through the window, I saw one of the cars burning and as I came out, I spotted two men climbing the perimeter fence as my dogs chased them,” said Kimutai.

He said he managed to put off the fire using water before alerting the police.

“I suspect that the gang wanted to set my house ablaze and kill us, but I thank God that my dogs thwarted their mission,” the former General Service Unit GSU officer.

“My two children had arrived home to visit us from Nairobi and it could have been a disaster should they have managed in their mission,” he said.

Kimutai says he feared for his life and that of his family following the attack.

A team of detectives led by County crime chief Sammy Mukeku visited the home.

Police have started investigations into the incident.
