Gangsters linked to murder of Nyeri chief gunned down

Three suspected gangsters linked to the murder of Kamakwa Chief Peter Kimiti were shot dead in Nyeri on Wednesday morning.

An AK 47 riffle and nine rounds of ammunition believed to have been used to commit the crime in July were recovered at the scene in Kanyagia area.

According to Central Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega, the police acted on a tipoff from the public.

They raided the home where the gang was holed up and a shoot-out ensued.

Njega said 8 suspects have so far been arrested after Interior CS Fred Matiang’i ordered a crackdown on criminals in the county.

He added that six illegal firearms have also been recovered from the time the operation begun in August.

The gang of young men is said to be operating in Nyeri,  Kirinyaga, Nyahururu, Naivasha and other areas in central Kenya.

Njega further noted that said that the crackdown is still ongoing and warned residents against engaging in criminal activities.

He urged those with illegal firearms to surrender to the nearest police station as officials will not relent in ensuring security is restored in the county.
