Garissa Governor denies lavish swearing-in

Garissa Governor Ali Korane has rubbished claims that his swearing in ceremony cost the county Ksh 19 million.

In a statement to the media, Korane dismissed the report terming it false and malicious maintaining that the actual inauguration cost was Ksh4.3M.

This comes just hours after a report published in one of the local dailies attributed to the Auditor General indicated that the swearing-in ceremony cost Ksh. 11.5 million while the Assumption of Office Committee allegedly consumed Ksh. 8.4 million in expenses.

The governor is now terming the report as political mischief, accusing those behind it of plotting to unsettle the fairly new county administration.

“My administration is determined to continue with its mandate of alleviating the lives of the people of the great county of Garissa.” Said Korane in the statement.

According to the publication, the report by the Auditor General Edward Ouko and submitted to the National Assembly, was also copied to Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, Governor Korane and the Garissa County Assembly Clerk.
